It’s all about customer service!

I’ve just returned from holiday and yes I did get fouled up with the volcanic dust fall out.

Whilst waiting to hear when we were going to return to the UK I heard a fellow traveller say that he felt people were less tolerant these days! I disagree I just think people have come to expect good customer service?

To finish the story off we returned to Gatwick having left from East Midlands - no worries we had been told by the rep of a popular travel company that we would be trasported by coach to East Midlands. I was even more exited since we were invited on an earlier flight which should have ensured I could get to the Leicester Tigers Rugby game. My joy was short lived since on arriving at Gatwick the travel company denied all knowledge of the requirement to transport us to our point of origin (lack of joined up thinking or at least communications!). Two hours after landing we were in a taxi to East Midlnds and I was 5 minutes late for the kick off.

As of 6th April 2010, the Information Commissioner’s Office will have new powers to impose financial penalties of up to £500,000 for breaches of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA).

If a Data Controller seriously contravenes one or more of the data protection principles and it is likely to cause substantial damage or distress, the new powers will apply.  The breach must have been deliberate or the Data Controller must have known, that there was a risk that the contravention would occur and failed to take reasonable steps to prevent it.
